Setting Up Your Organization: jump to another article
The Fluids Library
Fluids are organization-wide — set one up once under Fluids, and any machine can be assigned it. A fluid is what makes concentration calculable and gives KeepSpec default ranges to score a check against.
Name and Brix factor
Required for every fluid. The refractometer factor converts a Brix reading into concentration (concentration = Brix × factor) — this is the number from your fluid vendor’s technical data sheet, usually printed as the recommended refractometer factor or correction factor.
Default ranges
Min, target, and max for Brix, refractive index (RI), and pH — all optional, and independent of each other, since not every fluid tracks every parameter (a quenchant oil typically has no pH range). These become the default range any machine assigned this fluid inherits; a machine’s own concentration range can still override them individually. A fluid saved with none of the three ranges set is flagged with a warning in the list, since a check against it can’t be scored as in or out of spec yet.
Attaching a Safety Data Sheet
Two independent ways to attach an SDS, and you can use either or both: a vendor SDS URL (a link to the manufacturer’s own hosted copy), or uploading a file directly (PDF, JPG, or PNG). Uploading a file requires saving the fluid first — the upload slot is created per fluid, so a brand-new, not-yet-saved fluid can only use the URL field until it exists.
Archiving a fluid
Archiving doesn’t affect check history or any machine currently using it — both stay exactly as they were. It just removes the fluid from the picker when setting up a new machine.
